User Problem
Currently, in Jira Align, there is no support for recognizing or launching hyperlinks when using a Custom Text Input field. This limitation is problematic because users often utilize Custom Text Input fields as external references to other systems. With the ability to hyperlink directly from these fields, users can manually copy and paste URLs into their browsers, which is efficient and disrupts workflow.
Suggested Solutions
- Hyperlink Recognition: Implement functionality that allows Custom Text Input fields to recognize URLs and automatically convert them into clickable hyperlinks.
- Enhanced Linking Syntax: Similar to Jira, introduce the ability to use a syntax like [linkname|hyperlink], where users can display a label (for example, an ID) that hyperlinks to the system of record. This would streamline navigation and make the references in the Custom Text Input fields more user-friendly.
- Minimum Requirement: At the very least, enable the Custom Text Input field to identify when it contains a URL and make it clickable, launching the linked system or resource in a new tab or window.
Current Workarounds
Users must manually copy URLs from the Custom Text Input fields and paste them into their browsers to access the external systems. This manual process is time-consuming and prone to error, mainly when dealing with multiple references or complex workflows. Providing direct hyperlink functionality would significantly enhance user efficiency and reduce potential mistakes.
