Description
Currently, Jira Align falls short in supporting a core use-case for product and portfolio managers: building an outcome-based roadmap. While the roadmap functionality allows adding a column for objectives, it only provides a partial solution. Users can see the work but not the final outcome. For instance, if a product feature for mobile using AI is intended to save users time and improve NPS, it requires multiple epics and cross-team collaboration over several quarters. However, the current system does not clearly show key results or dependencies, making it difficult for teams to understand how their work contributes to the overall objective.
Enhancement
As a product or portfolio manager, I should be able to build an outcome-based roadmap. I should know the objective of the work and the desired outcome.
To improve user experience, Jira Align should:
- Display portfolio objectives and key results (KRs) clearly linked to epics over each planning increment.
- Indicate dependencies and risks, such as how delays in one team can impact others.
- Provide a single view for portfolio managers to see the status of objectives and associated work, with a grid view by quarter for simplicity.
- Enhance the roadmap view to show how team/program work aligns with specific OKRs.
By implementing these enhancements, Jira Align can better support outcome-based roadmapping, improve alignment across teams, and ensure that all stakeholders have a clear view of how their work contributes to strategic objectives. This will ultimately lead to more effective and efficient project planning and execution.
