User Problem
Users have raised concerns that a colleague who was tagged in a dependency comment was able to delete the comment unintentionally permanently. Additionally, any user with permission to view the dependency, whether tagged or not, can delete comments with the same effect. There is no entry in the audit log for comments being added or deleted, making it difficult to track changes and ensure accountability. This means Jira Align cannot be a golden source of the truth and management of dependencies will need to happen in another system / tool. We also lose transparency of progress / any impediments
Suggested Solutions
- Permission Control: Implement a permission control mechanism that restricts the ability to delete comments only to the original commenter or administrators.
- Undo Feature: Add an undo feature for comment deletion to allow users to recover accidentally deleted comments.
- Audit Logging: Ensure that all actions related to comments, including adding, editing, and deleting, are logged in the audit log for transparency and accountability.
Current Workarounds
Currently, there are no effective workarounds. Users need to be cautious when tagging colleagues and ensure they communicate the importance of not deleting comments.
