Documentation Suggestion for the Epic Approval Functionality
This is regarding the Epic's Benefits tab, the "Approvers" field- Approval functionality
This request is to improve, include additional Approval functionality details in the JA Help Center article > Benefits tab help page https://help.jiraalign.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000091374-Manage-epics
Specifically, in the “Benefits tab” section of the help page, there are some references to the intended behavior of approvals on Epics, but it seems to be lacking detail about the behavior more broadly. The customer is specifically looking for the following details in the Help documentation which is missing in the documentation.
For example:
- If an approver rejects/declines an approval request for an Epic, can that approver change their response? If so, how?
- Also, can the requester send a follow-up approval request to an approver if they’ve made a change and believe that the change would be sufficient for the approver to finally approve the request?
The following current behavior details that answer the above questions are lacking in the Help documentation:
- The only way approver can change their response is if they are removed and re-added back to the Approvers field.
- Also, the requester is able to send a follow-up approval request to an approver by removing and re-adding the approver user back to the Approvers field.
- Re-adding the user, the approver user gets a new notification again where they can change their response.
Steps to Reproduce
I am sharing here the steps that might be helpful in understanding the above behavior

- Navigate to Portfolio Epic > Benefits tab
- Add a user email to the Approvers field
- As the added user, navigate to the JA Notifications section and click on the red thumbs-down icon
- Then navigate back to the same Portfolio Epic > Benefits tab
- Click on the Approvers field colored icon to open the Approval modal window
- Note the approver has the Status of "DECLINED" as expected
- Now to change the above response is to remove and re-add the approver user back to the Approvers field following the steps below
- Remove the user from the Approvers field and Save
- Re-add the user back to the Approvers field and Save
- Navigate to the JA Notifications section as the user
- The approver is again able to record their new response
