Currently, when we create an Epic through the UI along with details for a custom field, the audit log for that creation is one single block and also encompasses the custom field information.

However, when we create an Epic through API along with details for a custom field, the audit log for that creation is recorded as two blocks, one for all the system fields and one for the custom fields.

Audit log behaviour should be the same across all modes of work item creation.
