An update on switching between Atlassian accounts

The ability to switch accounts is currently available in Trello, Bitbucket, id.atlassian.com and my.atlassian.com, with more products to follow soon!

On (2) outlined below, we are making good progress and hope to have more info / timelines to share soon.

      Hi everyone,

Thanks for your patience with us on this request.

We have some exciting things planned in this space on our short-term roadmap over the coming few months:

      1. Support the ability to switch accounts in our global products (i.e. non-tenanted products like Trello, Bitbucket, Statuspage, Start, etc.). This will allow you to easily switch your account in these products without having to log out, or use a different browser.
      2. Support the ability to be logged into different domains (including different Jira and Confluence sites) with different accounts. With this, you'll be able to be logged into Bitbucket with account A, acme.atlassian.net with account B, and space.atlassian.net with account C.

To help make sure we've addressed the main use cases for multiple accounts/switching accounts, I'd love your help with answering this short survey. It should take no longer than 2 minutes to complete, and will be super useful in helping us understand whether there's any gaps in our plan.

If you have any questions about anything, or would like to chat more about your use case, feel free to send me an email at ayang@atlassian.com.

      Thanks in advance!

      Cheers,
      Aneita

      Problem Definition

      • Users who have more than one Atlassian Account for different environments could have an easier way to switch between these accounts

       (Example: switching between google mail)

      Why this is important

      • Help users that constantly need to switch between Atlassian Accounts

Too bad the Products page doesn't respect the currently selected Account - still have to clear accounts/cache to login to certain sites. Even then, sometimes it just hard fails with SSO error. Very broken. Looking forward to this being finished and actually workable in day-to-day. Half measures shouldn't be released - changed my process just to realize I have to go back to old methodologies to handle multiple accounts.

            Hi everyone,

Thanks for all of the feedback and patience on this ticket so far. Great news - we’ve shipped 2 key changes to better support our customers that have multiple Atlassian accounts!

Switch accounts in our non-tenanted products

In products like Bitbucket and Trello, you can now switch accounts at the click of a button. Under the account menu, you can find a ‘Switch account’ link which will allow you to log in to, or select another account to use.

            Site-scoped sessions

You can now log in to different Jira and Confluence sites with different accounts! Atlassian sessions are now scoped to specific sites and domains meaning you can use acme.atlassian.net with account A, space.atlassian.net with account B, and bitbucket.org with account C, all at the same time.

This change eliminates the need for you to switch accounts or use different browsers, giving you more time to work on what matters.

We hope these changes are a big improvement for all of you who use multiple Atlassian accounts.

A big thank you again to everyone who took the time to participate in our customer research and offer us feedback on our early prototypes.

If you have a use case that hasn’t been covered by these updates, or any feedback to share, please feel free to raise a new ticket so that we can track the request separately.

            Happy new year!

            Thanks,

Just here to add my experience – I have two accounts, one managed by a corporation, and one through a Google account. Every time i visit JIRA, it's through Chrome's URL bar autocomplete feature, so i can just type "jira" and select the task board that i want to jump to.

When i switch accounts (which, there is no Switch Account button; would strongly suggest that be implemented), i log out, and then "Log in with a different account". Then, it still takes me to the screen as if i was a new user and needed to set things up – but i don't need to do that, and i can just exit and access my job board through the Chrome URL bar again.

Basically every time i switch accounts, Jira assumes i am a new user or something, and does not understand that i am simply switching accounts.

I would try to work around this by creating another google Profile, but i can't do that with my work email as it's not hosted through Google.

Meh. This experience drawback is easy enough to understand and deal with, but it would be super cool to have it solved. Thank you for all that you do and for hearing our request!
