Summary
Windows 4.0 client tries to use the proxy server settings on the Windows host that it runs from however it completely ignores the proxy exceptions list, and tries to use the proxy despite the HipChat Server IP and FQDN are specified in the exception list.
Environment
- HipChat Server 1.3.4
- HipChat Server 1.3.7
- Windows 4.0.1617 & 4.0.1619 (the issue is specific to the client instead of server)
Steps to Reproduce
- Setup a proxy exception list on Windows OS in Internet Properties > Connections > LAN Settings > Proxy Server > Advanced > Exceptions - You may specify the server URL and IP address e.g. server.domain.com;10.60.1.15;localhost
- Try to login to the client and you'll get "HipChat Server not found. Please ensure that the address is correct."
Expected Results
The client can connect to the server and user can login successfully
Actual Results
Client failed to connect to the server with error "HipChat Server not found. Please ensure that the address is correct.". The server is unreachable because the client is trying to connect to the proxy IP.
Notes
- The same issue is not reproducible when connecting Windows 2.2 client with the server - proxy exception list is respected
- The same issue is not happening to web clients in any browser - proxy exception list is respected
- Nothing printed in Windows client logs
Workaround
- Whitelist HipChat Server URL in proxy server like Squid if you have it set up OR
- Uninstall HipChat Windows 4.0 client, download Windows client v2.2.1397 and install it.
