Summary
Windows client doesn't respect the HipChat server domain name configuration in Windows exception list. It will say error HipChat server not found, but using IP has no issue to connect to the server.
Environment
- Windows client 4.27.1.1658
- Windows client 4.28.1.1659
- Windows client 4.30.3.1665
Steps to Reproduce
- Setup a proxy exception list on Windows OS in Internet Properties > Connections > LAN Settings > Proxy Server > Advanced > Exceptions - You may specify the server URL and IP address e.g. server.domain.com;
- Try to login to the client and you'll get "HipChat Server not found. Please ensure that the address is correct."
Expected Results
The client can connect to the server and user can login successfully
Actual Results
Client failed to connect to the server with error "HipChat Server not found. Please ensure that the address is correct.".
Notes
- The same issue is not reproducible when connecting with Window client v4.26.5.1655 as it respect the exception list.
- The same issue is not happening to web clients in any browser - proxy exception list is respected
- Nothing printed in Windows client logs
Workaround
- Whitelist HipChat Server URL in proxy server like Squid if you have it set up OR
- Uninstall HipChat Windows 4.0 client and install v4.26.5.1655
