Summary
- Renaming attachment to a non-ASCII character before upload causes the room history to not load properly the next time
Environment
- Mac 4.0.4
- Windows 4.0.1626
- Web 3.0.325
Steps to Reproduce
- Attach a file to the chat (public room / private room / 1-1 chat)
- Rename the file to any of the non-ASCII symbols included in the attachment non_ascii.txt

- Press enter and confirm that the uploaded content will not be shown on the history
- Close the room and reopen it again
Expected Results
- The room / 1-1 conversation history will be loaded as per normal
Actual Results
Notes
- If you check through the web interface room / 1-1 chat history, you will see the content there. E.g. https://www.hipchat.com/history/member/XXXXXX or https://www.hipchat.com/history/room/XXXXX
- Somehow, the clients cannot display the content due to the non-ASCII character rendering
Workaround
- Continuously enter 75 messages or more so that the content will not be loaded upon entering the room
- Delete the content from the web interface and re-open the room / 1-1 conversation again
