Partners with externally stored data (e.g., AWS infrastructure) are unable to customize the default app uninstallation warning message, leading to user confusion and increased support requests.
Partner Feedback:
A partner reported that when a customer attempted to uninstall their app, they were presented with the following warning:
"Please note that all <app name> data will be deleted in 14 days."
This message inaccurately suggests that all app-related data will be deleted according to Atlassian’s 14-day policy. However, the app stores some of its data externally (on AWS), and the deletion timing is governed by the partner's internal retention policy—not Atlassian’s.
Issue:
The current uninstall message assumes all data is stored within Atlassian infrastructure and subject to the 14-day retention policy. This can mislead users of apps with external storage, causing:
- Confusion about when and how data is actually deleted
- Increased support inquiries to both Atlassian and app vendors
- Potential trust issues with data handling transparency
Request:
Enable one or more of the following to better accommodate apps with externally stored data:
- Customizable Uninstallation Message: Allow partners to modify the uninstall warning to reflect accurate data handling details.
- Standardized Disclaimer: Include a standard line such as:
"Note: Some apps may store data externally and follow separate retention policies. Please refer to the app’s documentation for details."
- Link to App Documentation: Allow apps to provide a link in the uninstall dialog directing users to specific data retention information.
Related Initiatives:
This aligns with ongoing discussions around unified messaging during app uninstallation, particularly for Forge-based apps or those with external storage.
