Problem:
We sometimes have tickets with long and detailed descriptions. If a user clicks anywhere in the Description box it will go directly into edit mode. Regularly, a user clicks on the Description accidentally while scrolling around and looking at the ticket. Next, if the user doesn't realize they're in edit mode or if they don't know to carefully scroll down to "cancel" and exit the edit, the Description may be changed accidentally. This has happened on multiple occasions. I understand that the old description is available in the ticket history. But, it causes an unnecessary waste of time to restore the description. I understand that users familiar with the platform shouldn't make this mistake. But, we have very many users and a regular flow of non-technical users being asked to interact with the platform.
Suggested Solution:
I suggest a simple, optional way to mitigate this issue. Add a checkbox just beneath the bottom of the Description field named "Protect?" Then, when someone has checked the protect-box, the Description will become un-editable – until a user first unchecks the protect-box. This simple improvement will change nothing in the regular workflow of teams that choose to ignore the protect-box, but will be a great help to teams like mine. Thank you.
