Investigating a few hangs on StAC, I've seen thread dumps showing lots of threads blocked waiting for connections from HttpClient. It doesn't seem to recover from this. It's possible that in some error conditions (maybe when the remote Crowd server is down?) there is a connection leak, probably internal to HttpClient.

See comments on https://studio.atlassian.com/browse/JST-4716 and attached thread dumps.

[CWD-2449] HTTP connection pool leak in the Crowd REST client

Linking CWD-2646 as one might think there's a connection leak when they see things waiting on the pool.

Connections are leaked when connecting to a remote Crowd server, but the remote server is not a Crowd server. This is the case for example when a maintenance page is shown while Crowd instance is down.
