      Atlassian Update – 02 April 2024

      Hi everyone,

As we’re approaching the release of dark theme in Confluence 9.0, you can now get a first glimpse in Confluence 8.9 by enabling the theme.switcher dark feature. If you also enable the confluence.dark.theme.text.colors dark feature, you can see the updated editor colour palettes in light and dark theme. Bear in mind that we’re still working on finishing touches before the official release, and switching on the dark feature will enable dark theme for all users. We encourage you to try it in your staging environment, and let us know your feedback in the comments below.

      Kind regards,

      Jacqueline Bietz

3de8ace38af0 and any other person who ran into the same problem as me:
Check this setting: General Configuration > Layouts > Main Layout, see if there are any customized pages. Pages didn’t stay the same (white / black theme) with us. We had a page that was switching the theme back to blue. I resetted this to default solving our issue! Thanks for this theme feauture, waiting for jira!

0fee76fb98e3 I think reaching out to Atlassian support is a good idea. They're best placed to help troubleshoot what the issue might be that you're experiencing. Let us know how you get on

            Thanks,

3de8ace38af0 Sorry for the miscommunication. This is our scenario:

Once we click on the dark theme, the current page will change; but when I go to another page it changes back to default Original theme with the blue bar and white background. Same with dark theme. However, once I go to general settings it changes back. Does this has to do something with permissions or so?

So this scenario is not working for us. Default theme is with us original theme with blue bar.

Once typing this I believe this is more an Atlassian support question probably , let me know if that would be the best way forward.

            Hi 0fee76fb98e3,

Awesome to hear that your team is liking the new experience!

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly, so please let me know if I'm going down the wrong path here.

Basically, if you choose 'Light' as your preferred theme (select your profile picture in the top right corner of the screen > Theme > Light), then Confluence will display all pages in light theme when you're logged in, no matter which browser or device you're using.

If you choose 'Match system' as your preferred theme however, then Confluence will show all pages per the theme that the device you're using is configured to.

It's not possible for an admin to change the default theme for all users. In Confluence 9.0, the default theme is light theme, though we're updating this to match system from 9.1 onwards.

I hope this helps! Any further questions, just let me know.

            Thanks,

            Jacqui

We love the new team and design. Unfortunately, the browser session does not remember if I selected the dark theme when navigating to another page within the same session. Not sure if an extra setting needs to be adjusted. I would love I can choose a default theme for all users (the white on, as this looks more like cloud )

            Hi everyone,

Thank you again for all your feedback - we really appreciate it and have addressed it where possible. I'm closing this ticket now that dark theme has officially shipped in Confluence 9.0.

            Cheers,

            Jacqui

            Hi 38f94d3be1c2,

Thanks for letting us know and glad to know the editor colours are ok We're aware of the issues with the sidebar and space tools and fixed those recently. You'll see those improvements in the upcoming 9.0 release.

            Thanks,

            Jacqui

            Hi Jacqueline,

Enabling confluence.dark.theme.text.colors fixed the coloring issue.

One more thing we noticed, there are elements that do not follow the dark theme. For example, if you navigate to a space or page It keep the a white footer or background element for Space Tools.

            Thanks,

            Evette

Thanks 3de8ace38af0 . That worked. Hope to share some findings with you.

            Hi 0fee76fb98e3,

In the Enable dark feature text box, insert theme.switcher (instead of enable.legacy.edit.in.office) and click submit. You can also enable confluence.dark.theme.text.colors the same way to see the updated editor colour palettes in light and dark theme.

Let us know how you get on.

            Cheers,
            Jacqui
