At present attachment links are a little inconsistent within Confluence

      • Linking to an attachment with a wiki link downloads the attachment (or displays it inline depending on the attachment)
      • Attachment links in the recently updated list takes you to the attachment hyperlink on the attachments list of the page.

Perhaps all attachment hyperlinks should go via an intermediary metadata page with a preview of the attachment (e.g. a scaled version of an image) plus any relevent metadata such as creation dates, dimensions, pages etc.

This would make a useful extension point for plugins as well. For example an EXIF extractor could display any EXIF data from a photograph on this page.
