Issue Summary

Companion app does not show PDF's on Mac OS Big Sur

Steps to Reproduce

• Click on the edit button on a pdf preview in confluence using atlassian companion(v 1.2.5) on MacOS big Sur
• Only PDF's are affected and other file types like XLS are opened correctly.

Expected Results

Companion app does not open the pdf in preview, rather shows nothing

Actual Results

Companion app should open the pdf in preview

The below exception is thrown in the xxxxxxx.log file:

Note:
Companion app is using default Mac app to preview and default app is books since books app resource is crashing after Mac OS upgrade as per this forum: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/121533 which is not letting any PDF’s to show up on Mac OS big Sur due to the Mac bug: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/659317 therefore, Companion app is not showing anything on PDF preview

Workaround

Try changing default pdf view app from books to something else.
