    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

We often create pages that have images (that are often screenshots). Being able to directly attach them instead of needing to save them and then attach them would be great. This would be especially for news posts since we often create a post, then attach an image and then edit the post to include a reference to the image.

Atlassian Status as of 16th September, 2011

      Hello Everyone,
Thanks for your feedback on this issue. The Confluence team is proud to announce that we will have this feature implemented in the upcoming Confluence 4.0 (due out in a few weeks).

Please note that this feature has been implemented for Chrome and FireFox. Unfortunately, we could not implement this in Internet Explorer due to IE not having the appropriate support for the Clipboard API. We do intend on implementing this for IE once this is complete. You can track that issue here: CONF-23235

Please note: Confluence does have existing drag-drop functionality which will allow you to easily drag-and-drop images into the editor (which works for Internet Explorer 8. Note: It does not work in IE9 due to similar limitations).

[CONFSERVER-5587] Allow users to paste image in WYSIWYG editor

Hi everyone, below is new official Jira/Atlassian thread on this paste image topic from Daniel Gutierrez (who works in the Atlassian founders office and set this up).  Let's all try to rally around this new official thread and vote to get this issue fixed once and for all:

Thanks for your interest in this use-case! I've opened a feature request on jira.atlassian.com for you watch and vote on: JRACLOUD-71695

I'm also locking this particular thread for comments as it is dated and we want to make sure your comments and feedback get the attention they deserve. Please create a new question on Community if you need help with a particular aspect of Jira's current behavior. And if JRACLOUD-71695 completely captures what you're looking for, please watch it to keep up with any changes planned in Jira.

            Thanks!

this is definitely not resolved. Not sure what these guys in Atlassian is thinking
You can copy from clipboard and paste in an edit page but saving the page will render it as a Broken Image.
This is evident in 6.8.1. Pretty sure 6.10 has the same results

This issue does not seem to be resolved on the latest version of Confluence

            Confluence 1000.929.0

Tested on Windows 10 with Google Chrome, Firefox

Also tested on Max OSX with Chrome.

As a test case, I have copied the JIRA logo into the clipboard using the "Snipping Tool" on Windows 10. I have also pasted it on Trello to make sure that the image actually is in the clipboard, then tried on Confluence. Trello works, confluence does not. See attached gif.

Edit: funny enough, dropping a gif here in the comment box does not result in it showing up, so I've added it to a dropbox folder:

Hi thedoctor – there was a bug that prevented this functionality from working with Firefox 10. This was fixed in Confluence 4.1.6.

I have recently been seeing issues pasting screen prints (ex. Excel spreadsheet screen shots) into Confluence 4.0.4 on Firefox ver. 10.0.2. The screenshot pastes in while in the page edit function, but after clicking on 'view' or 'save', it comes back as a 'broken image' box. The pasting of screen shots works fine in Google Chrome 17.0.963.56 m, but I prefer to use Firefox. Please advise.

A correction is necessary to your statement added today... You say:

Please note: Confluence does have existing drag-drop functionality which will allow you to easily drag-and-drop images into the editor (which works for Internet Explorer as well as other major browsers).

However, on this page you state that:

IE9 does not support Google gears or HTML drag api. This is a limitation of the browser.

You should amend your stance on IE9 support. It seems that at this time, neither pasting images into the editor nor drag-and-dropping them is supported on IE9. The only way to add images is the old upload method.

I read that Confluence 4.x will support Copy / Paste in Firefox / Chrome. Why is IE not capable of doing that?

A while back, I created a plugin for Confluence (Image Attacher) to try to implement this feature. I stopped maintaining it when 3.1 broke the plugin, but I now have a different solution. Since Confluence now supports drag and drop (via Google Gears and soon HTML 5) for attaching images, all that remains is the ability to copy and paste images. I've created a small utility that works around this by letting you copy images to your clipboard and then drag them into Confluence without the painful step of saving them to a local file before uploading.

See this page for info about the Copy Drag'n application (and the source):
