    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Needed to support the ask questions from a Confluence space story:

      Story

      • John is new at the company and is trying to find general information about benefits.
      • He navigates to the HR space but doesn't see what he's looking for.
      • He sees an "ask a question" button on the HR home page and clicks it.
      • He's directed to CQ where he posts a question in the "HR" topic. (The HR topic is already selected for him)

      Features

      • Macro would be called the "Ask Question" macro (similar to the create page macro)
      • When configuring the macro, it would have params for:
        • Button Text
        • Topic(s)

Info on how you can use Confluence's Create from Template macro to make an Ask a Question button can be found here https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/QUESTIONS/Integrating+Questions+with+your+spaces

For me the type ahead find is sufficient. As long as the user gets redirected to the original question form, its all good

@Sam Tardif - Now that you brought it up, I do see where this happens. So my feedback is, the Related Questions column is too small and my eyes don't redirect when the related questions appear. This may not be an issue if there are many related questions that match, but if there are only one or two I don't notice this list being generated. I understand this will only be an issue until users know it's there, but it seems like a potential pain point having to point that out to everyone. Personally, I like how the matching topics on the main questions page appear just below the field I am typing in. It is easily seen making it user friendly for all. I would suggest either slightly increasing the font size used under the Related Questions Column or finding a way for the related topics to appear under the field on the Ask a Question page just as it does on the main Questions page.

jason.muzzarelli we're also very concerned about users being able to circumvent that search process, it's a very good point you bring up

On the Ask a Question page we show search results down the right hand side of the page, which are updated as you change the question title. Do you feel that's enough? Did you notice those search results?

I still feel it is important to address this request in some way, but want to call out what may be obvious. I had set out to find a way for a "Ask a question" button to be placed on a page, and in my search found this request already posted and quickly seconded the notion. However, I want to make sure that by giving people this shortcut for asking a question with the topic already prepopulated we aren't also giving them a way to circumvent the process of not searching for questions already answered. Part of what makes Questions useful is I go to the Questions landing page, start to type in my question, and ones that have already been answered start to appear. This gives me the opportunity to quickly sift through answers that may be relevant. If I instead am given a way to post my question without that filter process happening concurrently, then the Questions environment may quickly end up with 50 different people asking about how to fill out their timecard with holiday hours. Please make sure that while giving us a way to include this "ask a question" button, you don't take away the ease of users finding questions already answered.

I agree with Stefan. The separate button would be nice to have for layout purposes, so we can use the button on pages where we won't necessarily have a list of questions feeding into the page. I do like that it will be part of the questions list macro, too.

We've just implemented the Questions List macro with the ability to ask a question (see CQ-84). This will be available in the next couple weeks. Do folks see a need to have just a separate "ask a question" macro or is it sufficient to have this combined with the Questions List macro?

This would help us so much! It would make it much easier to use and manage questions both for users and admins.

Great idea. Yes I would emphasize the need to pre-define topics in the question button
