Since Team Calendars 1.0, Calendars have lived outside spaces. What this has meant that they have a different permission and notification model to spaces.

We've learnt over the last few years that for most calendars, they really belong to a space.

We should consider changing Team Calendars so that they live in spaces. Some things to think about:

      • How do we migrate existing calendars?
        • You can link a calendar to a space today - we could use this
        • What if the calendar has different permissions to space permissions?
      • What is the experience for creating a new calendar?
      • Should Calendars should be part of space export / import

It could look something like this:

[CONFSERVER-49079] Team Calendars should live in Spaces

carolynfrench – You can do this by going to the Calendars section of that space and adding an existing calendar (click the down arrow option beside the create button in the top right corner). That calendar can have alternate permissions applied (but would inherit the permissions of whatever space it's originally from).

While we support the majority of the calendars living within spaces (including inheriting space permissions), would you please address how we would do the following use case? We have a calendar that we want to "link" to a space so that it's easily found. However, we want different permissions so that more users can view the calendar.

A release for Server will be available pretty soon.

Thank you for completing this feature request!

I need to add my obligatory, "Please release for server installs!"

How do we obtain 5.3.2 in order to test?

This is interesting idea, but keep in mind:

            • there are still many calendars that are not connected to specific project (either calendars that are used by more than 1 project, calendars that are used without connection to any specific project and calendars that are connected to only specific people in project)
            • permissions/restrictions - we would still need to differentiate at least 4 levels (1.admin fully controlling the calendar, 2.person who can add/edit events, 3.person who can only see events and 4.people without any access to calendar)
            • easy way who to watch/stop watching calendar
            • easy way how to add/remove calendar from My calenders view
            • easy way how to add/remove calendar notifications

I can imagine that the calendar would be connected to specific page in Confluence space and I could manage this specific page rights together with the calendar (basic permissions from space, specific restrictions from page, managing list of watchers through page)
