This may have been "accidentally" fixed when we upgrade the authentication plugin on Answers. We now pull avatars from your Atlassian account using a different mechanism, which probably doesn't suffer from the same bug as this.

I would guess that anyone who's having this problem can probably fix it by saving a new avatar on Atlassian account, triggering a refresh.

I am currently affected, I see the broken image in my profile only on Atlassian Answers.
The browser console shows:

I came here from CQ-1341 looking to find out why my avater is not showing in Answers although it is set in other Atlassian sites I have visited recently. The screenshots shown here are not exactly the problem I am experiencing, however. Mine shows as the blank silhouette with a question mark, rather than the broken image icon.

I think this might be related to the error I was seeing in the logs yesterday when Julien was performance testing:
