Unable to update non-LDAP/Crowd attributes in the User Profile

LDAP/Crowd users are unable to edit non-LDAP/Crowd attributes (e.g. Department, Position, etc), if the target LDAP/Crowd directory does not allow User Attribute modification, but the directory is set to Read/Write in Confluence Admin >> User Directories. Ironically, setting the directory configuration to Read Only allows users to modify those attributes again (Workaround).
