      Problem

After inserting a link to an anchor in a page, Confluence seems to be truncating part the resulting URL, making the link useless.
For example, a link to an anchor named "section two" would be rendered as

      https://<account>.atlassian.net/wiki/display/<spaceKey>/<page>#<page>-sectiontw

(note the missing "o" letter at the end of the link).
The issue seems to be intermittent.

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Create a new page
      2. Create a numeric list with titles that will eventually be links. (such as: 1. link one, 2. link two, etc.)
      3. Create 4 h3 headers with some text, below the numbered list ("section 1", "section 2", etc.)
      4. Above each h3, insert anchors ("section one", "section two", "section three", etc.)
      5. For each of the items in the enumerated list at the top, highlight the text and click the link icon.
      6. For the link, use the corresponding anchor that was just created (i.e., "#section one" or "#section two").
      7. Save the page.

      Expected Result

Links would point to the anchors correctly

      Actual Result

Some of the links are not rendered properly

      Reproduced using the following environments:

      • OS: Windows 7
        Chrome 26.0.x
        IE9
      • MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.3
        Safari 6.0.4

Workaround (From Michael in the comments)

Click the "Save" button after entering the anchor destination, rather than pressing the Enter key.

            Hi,

I am using Confluence 6.0.0 and am also experiencing this (or similar) issue. An link to an anchor created by hitting the Enter/Return key after typing truncates the anchor name. If using "Save" button, however, it works fine.

If you are not planning to fix the truncating issue, please at least remove the ability to create a link using the Enter key. I hit Enter out of habit. I then have to go back and fix my anchors each time.

I just stumbled on this using Confluence 5.7.3, hosted on our own Linux box. I'll give the workaround a try. Thanks.

I can confirm that Michael's workaround works. Though it'd be nice if Atlassian would fix this, seeing as it was first reported broken very nearly 2 years ago...

No way! Thanks, Michael. I'll give this a shot next time I run into the problem.

Issue is still present in 5.7, and is very frustrating

Workaround: click the "save" button after entering the anchor destination, rather than pressing the Enter key. I was able to fix about 20 broken anchor links that way.

This has been an ongoing issue and remains present in v5.5.6. I'm trying to make a simple anchor link to #Navigation and Confluence repeatedly ruins the anchor, changing it to #Navigat or #Nav.

Oh, how I wish wiki markup were still around… it'd make so many things so simple to fix.

            Hi Patrick

Thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately this is a lower priority issue and is therefore not at the top of our backlog at the present time. As soon as we're able to address this issue we'll update this ticket with more information.
