    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

      NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

      It's excellent to be able to copy and paste documents, or drag and drop, from the Windows desktop into the Confluence editor.

      It would be even better if I could copy (or drag) an attachment from a mail in my MS Outlook 2010 and paste it directly into Confluence.

      At the moment I have to copy/drag to the desktop then copy/drag to confluence editor.

      Workaround (Chrome)

      1. The current behavior of Drag and Drop seems to move the emails over to Confluence, deleting it from Outlook.
      2. For Chrome, we can workaround the issue by using the Javascript below in Confluence.
        • <script type="text/javascript">
          $(document.body).on('dragover', function (e) {
          e.originalEvent.dataTransfer.dropEffect = 'copy';
          });
          </script>

            The Javascript workaround above doesn't seem to work with recent versions of Chrome.
            The current Chrome version I'm using is: Version 85.0.4183.121 (Official build) (64 bits).
            ... and Confluence 6.5.12.

            Could you also add this functionality for IBM-Notes? It is working with Chrome and Outlook, but not with Chrome (or any other browsers) and IBM-Notes. Thank you.

            Thank you Anthony Paul for this tip.  I tried it and it does indeed work in Chrome - very helpful!

            it works with chrome, not IE or Edge. More likely a browser compatibility issue. this feature would be greatly appreciated. An option to simply drag an attachment in confluence to an email client would also be of use. saving local copies defeats the purpose

            Confluence can't fix this, it's a outlook issue that generally affects drag n drop to all web applications.

            We are thinking about stop working with Conflunce instead of sharepoint. But without this feature, I'll be not able to change it. I can't tell 150 people, which are using this function now in sharepoint, that more clicks are better than one... Is the really no way??

            We would really love to see this drag and drop from Confluence to MS Outlook working! This not just a "nice to have" but a really important and basic feature. We use currently Confluence Server 5.8. and MS Outlook 2010.

            Is there an update on this? The plugin listed above is actually different functionality than a simple drag and drop.

            This is a pretty big feature for us. We get lots of attachments from international offices, Confluence is our central hub to store all that info. It's a big pain to have to drag/drop to the desktop first, mostly just having to manage all that desktop clutter that comes up.

            There are paid plugins available here https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/biz.artemissoftware.plugins.confluence.send-email-to-page, but agreed it should be standard functionality.

            Same issue when trying to attach pdf files to Outlook from confluence webdav, would be useful feature to have.

            This is one of the first things I tried to do as a new Atlassian user. Disappointed that it isn't available. Has there been any word on whether this is fixable by the Atlassian teams or is it a problem with the way Outlook interacts with your PC?

            NOTE!!

            If you add an Email as .msg to your site there is no search functionality - Confluence is not able to search inside the content of .msg attachment at the moment.

            See https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-33753 for details and vote for it if you also would like this improvement.

            That's really boring for us at the moment!

            There is a (hack) workaround:

            1) Click on "Browse for files" in the Page attachments
            2) Drag the email into the default folder of the "Browse" popup (usually Desktop). This creates a ".msg" file in this folder.
            3) Select the item from this folder to attach to the Confluence page.
            4) Manually remove the item from your desktop (or wherever)

            Bad, but not horrible.

            We are giving Confluence a trial as well and this is one of the first things I tried. Given out current process involves requirements in word documents with requests send via email, it would be hugely beneficial to be able to attach an email to a Confluence page directly from Outlook. Of course drag and drop would be ideal, but since that's likely a technical nightmare I think either of the following could work as well:

            • Have an outlook plugin (similar to the one for EverNote) that we can use to attach an email (or a group of emails) directly on a Confluence page.
            • Have a special email address that we can forward an email to to automatically attach the email to the Confluence page.

            I think barring the drag and drop approach the plugin is preferred since it could contain a UI where the page could be specified, perhaps with some comments, etc. This would be harder if not impossible to do when forwarding an email (unless each page could had their own email address, but then how to label/comment it?).

            My $0.02. Hope this helps.

            I reported a problem exactly like this in 2011, perhaps not in the right area. I think this is a vital capability!

            We want to use Confluence to store product documentation in PDF and Word. These files will often be sent by e-mail to our customers, so it is critical for us that employees easily can attached Confluence attachments in Outlook e-mails.

            Right!
            Management acceptance of confluence is significantly lower due to this missing drag/drop support of their preferred tool Outllok.

            i would very urgently need a festure to be able to drag attachments FROM confluence to the desktop or even more important: to outlook email.
