Indent function doesn't work as expected when indenting tables

      NOTE: This bug report is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding bug report.

      When indenting a table using Firefox, (v14.0.1), or Chrome, (v20.0.1132.57), it is possible to indent a table in the editor view but whenever the page is saved or previewed the indent disappears and the table appears to be aligned to the left again, (see attached screenshot).

      To workaround this issue you can use the User Macro defined in this comment and embed the table into nested 'indent' macros.

            It almost been a decade since this was first reported in your forums and it still does NOT work.

            The only thing that has changed is that the workarounds no longer work. What a horrible experience!

            @Quan Pham,  this does not appear to be fixed.  I am using Confluence 6.14.1, with Chrome 73.0.3683.75.

            I also still have this problem, in Confluence 5.5.6. I'm baffled why such a simple and basic text editing function is not implemented in Confluence wiki.

            Please Reopen this bug

            This functionality is still broken in Confluence 6.5, as far as I am concerned. You can initially indent a table the way you want, but if/when it falls back to the first column, it becomes impossible to indent it after that.

            I can sometime trick my way around this by creating a bullet list and putting the table in there, but then there is an unwanted bullet that cannot be removed.

            This still appears to be a problem in Confluence version 5.7.4

            We ran into this today too using OnDemand; it makes our layout look pretty ugly - which is usually not the case with Confluence.

            Yes, still a problem. Is there any plan to fix this? And this affects 5.x too.

            This is confusing our users (Confluence 4.3). +1 to have this fixed.

            Appears the rendered HTML contains no style=""margin-left: 30.0px;" when saved, but does in edit mode. Though the correct answer may be to wrap the entire indent in a div when rendering it.

            We are seeing this after our upgrade to 4.3.7 (Linux, Tomcat and mySQL). Can probably use Layouts and div macro with CSS as options but that is kind of technical for many users.

            The only work around I have is sections and columns.

            {section}
            {column} With a width of 10px or 10%{column}
            {column} Either skip defining it or define for example 90%
            TABLESTUFF{column}
            {section}

            This makes tables indent and works fine, a little ugly in the editor but that is acceptable. The only problem I have seen is using PDF export.

            The PDF Export strips away sections and columns, as in they are still there but each column is rendered as new line instead of a column layout. This means that the buffer column you use to indent is displayed in the line above the column that has the table. The column is still indented a little bit because of the section/column macro but since the PDF Export renders all tables as 100% width and you have a slight indent, it strips away a little bit of the right edge of the table. Nothing major, but a little anoying.

            No workaround is available for OnDemand users since we cannot utilize user macros.

            One other consideration is the affect of the indent when exported. If you indent a table, the indent is ignored in the PDF export.
