Export Page to Word - images do not display, in Office for Mac

NOTE: This bug report is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding bug report.

When exporting to Word, images are in the file, but do not display (or appear to be blank images on Mac and red crosses on Windows). I have attached my test, and a screenshot of the original page I used to create the document. If you click in the right place, you can select the image, but no amount of moving, copying or resizing will convince it to display.

This is for regular inline images, not generated images (---CONF-25599---).

      Steps to reproduce:

      1. Add a new page.
      2. Insert an image by going "Insert" -> "Image", then upload an image and attach it.
      3. Save the page.
      4. Go to "Tools" -> "Export to Word" and open the resulting *.doc file in Word for Mac 2011 and 2010.
        • The image will not be visible, and just show a blank line in its place.
        • Opening the same *.doc file in Word running on Windows will show the image.

      Resolution:

After investigation, it appears this issue has been fixed in Microsoft Office 2016. As our documentation currently lists Microsoft Office 2013 as the earliest supported version (https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/office-connector-prerequisites-170493096.html) , and there is no 2013 Office for mac, it is recommended that customers upgrade to Office 2016 to resolve this issue. Office 2016 has only been tested with Confluence 6.0.x. So while there is no fix contained in version 6.0.1, it is recommended that you upgrade to this version when you upgrade to Office 2016.

            Hi Jade,

A similar issue has been reported by our customers too (Balsamiq Mockups add-on).

The Word export (containing a link to a PNG image) is not displaying also in Google Docs. What do you suggest about it?

4 years after the issue was reported, it would be nice to have a solution or at least a workaround for Mac... Sadly, it seems that this issue will never be fixed.

Atlassian should treat to fix this issue as Urgent. It's a visible and highly used feature for a Wiki tool like Confluence. Our organization MAC laptops are affected.

Foolheartedly wrote a pretty extensive document in Confluence that needed to end up in Word. Lots of images. Totally borked. Very frustrating.

Since this does not work (and the ticket is that old without any action from Atlassian), but we use Word (and Office in general) regularly, there are considerations forming to ditch Confluence in favor of Sharepoint.

Hello. I see this ticket is over 3 years old now. This issue still affects at least some people, including me. Any plans to remedy? If not, please close the ticket

Well, be that as it may: This bug stands for a quite a while now, on multiple platforms, and there is no workaround!

Maybe Atlassian could start to actually work on finding a solution?

The assignees are only assigned in the public tracker if they are literarily working on it now. Your complaint is fairly common but the public tracker doesn't represent all internal discourse on issues: They have a internal tracker as well.

Still a issue on 5.5.6. This is ridiculous that it is not even assigned to anyone. I thought the point of having a paid product was great support. Guess not!

We experience a slightly different, but also very severe problem:

As is well known, the exported "Word document" is no real Word document, but a multipart-MIME-file. In some (reproducable) cases, all of the following occur on one exported page:

            1. the binary multipart-parts are incomplete, i.e.: many attachments are missing
            2. the multipart-parts are much too short for the attachments contents
            3. the multipart-boundary markers are all identical
            4. all links to attachments are absolute, i.e. pointing to "/confluence/"[…] instead of the attachments, being translated to "file:///C:/confluence/"[…] by Word
            5. and of course, all images are invalid therefore, like in this bug's description.

Agreed again. I really cannot understand why there's obviously no interest in fixing a comparatively simple issue/ feature.

Same issue here, this is quite annoying as our entire office runs on Macs. Fix would be appreciated, given that it's been open for 2 years.
