We use the smileys and other goodies (, , ) extensively.
However, I think that the emoticons :\P and :\D should be abolished altogether. Colon-letter is a sequence used frequently in "serious" work, and it should not be hijacked by an emoticon. Two examples:
- crm:P140_assigned_attribute_to : XML, Turtle, SPARQL namespace/prefix - FE80::D202::FE1E:8329 : IPv6 address
I doubt if anyone uses them as emoticons, but many people hate them. I've even seen reviews ridiculing Confluence about it.
The same holds of Jira. As you can see in this very field, these emoticons cannot be escaped properly in Jira
