Confluence Search Form can't parse the user value it puts into the Who user input box

When I search for stuff that I wrote I enter my username into the Who field: jed

When it returns the Who field is populated with a nice expansion of my full name: Jed Wesley-Smith (jed)

If I then edit my search and leave this field as it is, the search returns nothing and the field has a validation error: No matching user found.

I swear this is a duplicate and that this bug has existed since 2.7 when the search was introduced, but I can't find it. So I'm just going to fix it instead. (I say this with false confidence, not having looked at how hard it is or how it works or anything. But I'm really sick of this bug.)

We've also had this problem since forever. I remember seeing it at least as early as Conf 3.1. Quite annoying when making several subsequent author queries - I always have to correct the author field to avoid the error.

            Hi Jed,

            I second this problem.

We've just updated the Confluence at CustomWare to version 3.4.8 and we have the same issue. See screenshots on CONF-21872.

Can we get this assigned to Atlassian to address?

It's a small bug, and a quick win.

            Thanks,
            David V
