LDAP users are added into People Directory only when they click on their Preferences

At the moment when LDAP users logged into Confluence, their personal details will not be shown automatically in people directory.
I found that LDAP users will only be added into the people directory if they clicked on their preferences.

Would it not be making more sense if for each LDAP users who have successfully logged in to Confluence to have their personal details shown in the people directory?

We use Crowd for user management. When selecting All People from the People directory, no users show up. I manually run the people upgrade task indicated in the docs. If I search for a user, then it finds and displayes the user. Going to the preferences page for another user didn't seem to make a difference. I assume All People should display all registered Confluence users. BTW we are on 2.9.2.

I've increased the priority of this issue and changed it to a bug since it has the effect of preventing the new 2.9 author filtering from working for LDAP installations.

For external user management LDAP/Jira Users do not show up in the people directory even after logging in. They show up only after editing their profile. Only then a Personal Info Object is created which is included in the index.

We have this same issue for Confluence users authenticating against Jira. Seems like a bug.
