    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Editing a space's permissions under 1.0 requires the administrator actually clicks through to the space's summary and from there goes to editing the permissions. Even for a fairly simple Confluence setup with multiple user groups and multiple spaces, administering the permissions is already getting quite cumbersome and it's quite hard to get a picture of what spaces a single group or user can actually view/edit/etc.

Please add a new tool into the Administrator section which lists all the spaces in the system and lets the admin edit the spaces permissions without having to go through to the summary of the space. Also please make it possible to list the space access rights of a group and/or a user to make it possible to view what content access the user or group has.

Atlassian update: Released in Confluence Data Center 7.3

      Hi everyone

Thanks for your comments and feedback on this issue. In Confluence Data Center 7.3, we released the ability to bulk apply permissions changes to other spaces. If you're an administrator, you also have the option to edit permissions on the fly, then copy these permissions to other spaces. This is incredibly useful when you create a new group, and want to give that group the same permissions in several existing spaces.

Please note that there are no plans to ship this to Confluence Server.

Head to Inspect permissions to learn more, or check out our new Permissions best practices guide

      Thanks

[CONFSERVER-1053] Bulk space permissions editing for global administrators

            happy april foools 2004!

but seriously how about this in cloud?

Hi team - this is a great feature - but is there a way to select ALL spaces without manually going through and filtering, then selecting them one-by-one? We have 500 spaces and need our new admin group to have permissions in all of them. Thanks.

Atlassian status as of September 2019

Confluence provides granular permissions controls to ensure the right people can see the right content. In the coming months, we’ll be making these controls even better so you can be confident in your content privacy settings and compliance.

We will be adding three new permissions features that will make Confluence Data Center even more powerful and help reduce administrative overhead. These features are: auditing, troubleshooting, and bulk editing.

These features are made possible through Atlassian’s acquisition of the Ultimate Permissions Manager app produced by META-INF. Ultimate Permissions Manager has now been removed from the Atlassian Marketplace and we will be integrating its capabilities into Confluence Data Center. You can expect to see many of these improvements as the Confluence team works to integrate Ultimate Permissions Manager in the coming months.

Read more about these features from our blogpost

We have released a new add-on that may come to rescue those who want to see and understand the effective permissions.

This add-on (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/hu.metainf.plugin.confluence.ultimate-permission-manager) combines global, space and page level permissions and restrictions into effective permissions with detailed explanations.

It has a central page (as well as pages in Space admin) where you can view all space permissions.

The addon will soon add the managing options that will allow you to edit space permissions centrally. I recommend you give it a try and watch for updates.

REST API access to this would be appreciated to, then we could at least script the labor of changing permissions on all the spaces...

            Another +1.

We have a lot of spaces in our company's Confluence instance and applying any change in permissions is a nightmare!

I had to add new users group, and it was super easy to do but then I had to add this group to all the spaces manually - which is super stupid in my opinion. System should ask when saving the global permissions "should new permissions be applied in any existing spaces" Yes/No. That would simplify things a lot! More option would be appreciated too

            Thanks!

Just a +1 for the use case that Normand Carbonneau outlined above.

Michael Brinson added a comment - Just a +1 for the use case that Normand Carbonneau outlined above.

            Here is my use case:

A few years ago, we defined the Global Permissions on Spaces that was including access by a specific security group (all our internal employees) to all our spaces by default.

Years have passed, and 250 Spaces later, we need to rename the security groups because of a company merge, but unfortunately, JIRA does not allow us to rename groups. So, we created a new group and we want to remove the old group from permissions on the existing 250 Spaces as well as adding permissions for the new group.

But once again, this is not allowed, so, we end up having to manually change the permissions on each Space individually because we are using On-Demand version.

            Any suggestion?

            Thanks, Normand

We also need functionality for configuration of permissions over all spaces - it takes a lot of time to do that individually.

Some thousands of issues later, there's been related issues emerging: CONF-4075 CONF-5450.

We really need permission views on groups and users which are not resource-based.

Basically, I want to have a view where I can click on a user and see which spaces explicitly mention the user in their permissions AND which spaces grant the user view permission based on his/her groups. Similarly, I want to see a report on each group which tells me which spaces refer to the the groups.

The administration of the space permissions was already getting out of hand two years ago when I originally reported this issue and you can imagine how complex our setup is now.
