Problem
Currently, Confluence Cloud doesn't support the automatic reordering of pages (CONFCLOUD-65454), not even using automation in space upon the event of a new page being published.
This limitation requires users to manually reorder their pages to maintain a desired alphabetical sequence, which can be a time-consuming and inefficient process, particularly for spaces with a large number of pages.
Suggested Solution
We propose the addition of a feature in Confluence Cloud Automation that enables automatic reordering of pages within a space upon the trigger event of a new page being published.
The proposed feature would function according to the following parameters:
- Trigger: 'Page Created' or 'Page Updated'
- Action: 'Reorder Pages in Space Navigation'
- Configuration: Determine order 'Alphabetically Ascending/Descending'
- Scope: 'Apply to Child Pages' option
In essence, when a new page is created or an existing page is updated, the automation rule will activate. The 'Reorder Pages in Space Navigation' action will then rearrange the pages in the space navigation panel in either ascending or descending alphabetical order, as specified in the configuration. If the 'Apply to Child Pages' option is selected, the reordering will also affect the hierarchy of sub-pages under each page.
Why This Is Important
Implementing this feature would significantly enhance user experience and productivity. In addition, it would ensure consistency in how pages are ordered across different spaces, making information easier to find and navigate.
Workaround
Currently, the workaround for this limitation involves manually reordering pages in the space.
