Is there no other solution to this problem, other than using the workaround of opening Chrome or IE?

Yes, we are unable to preview attachments in Firefox.
We are able to correctly preview in both IE and Chrome.

When attempting to preview any attachment in Firefox, I get the blank background, a spinning gear icon and nothing else.
Tested with Word files, Excel files, Visio drawings.
No difference based on attachment type.
