Summary

Space Template not saving when you copy a table from another page with an image attachment in it and paste it when creating template.

      Environment

      Confluence Cloud: 1000.340.0

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Go to the space and choose Space tools > Content Tools on the sidebar.
      2. Choose Templates > Create New Template.
      3. Copy/Paste a table from another page with an image attachment in it.
      4. Try to save the template

      Expected Results

      • The template will be created and will appear on the templates list.

      Actual Results

      • It is not possible to save the Template and it doesn't appear in the template list.

      Workaround

      • Create and save a BLANK template (to force the new template to appear in the templates list), then edit the template, copy / paste the table, and save it again. OR Create the template but add the image via the "Insert Files and Images" dialogue instead of via copy / paste.

Did anyone already post a follow up task for this one already?

@sunny Being honest and open is one thing. But closing an existing bug report just for the sake of "keeping the roadmap lean" feels a bit ignorant imo.

Keep the issue open and bump up the priority whenever a slot opens up.

It is a massive nuisance to be unable to update templates and it is beyond me why this is not only being ignored, but also actively pushed away.

I just found this and am having a similar issue which I created and linked https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-58611

I was just figuring you couldn't have images in templates.

We are having this issue on a Server instance as well. Is there another Server specific ticket I can follow, or can this ticket be changed to include the Server version?

            Hi All,

This happens whenever you copy paste an image in a template. Also happening when you copy paste it from within the same template!

            To reproduce:

            1. Create a new page template
            2. Enter some text
            3. Insert an image
            4. Save
            5. Now reopen the template - all your stuff is there, as expected
            6. Now, from within the same template/window/tab, take the image you have inserted, do a CTRL + C then CTRL + in some other part of the SAME template, using the same window/tab
            7. Write something in the template, then press Save
            8. Reopen the template, you will see that any data entered since you copy-pasted an image has not been saved, including the image itself.

            Kind regards,
            Stefano

We are having this same issue on server as well.

We usually develop the templates in regular pages to get approval and then move them into the space template. this is a serious bug as we can spend a lot of time and then after saving the whole content is gone. I thought it was caused by conflict with recently installed addons but it looks, based on this report, that is a bug.

            My instance is on Server

I was just copying regular content, not table. Is there any other way to convert a page into a Space template??

Reproduced on PUG - the template save appears to work correctly after pasting in an editor-format table including an attachment image, but the save isn't performed. Editing the template again shows the original version of the template.
