NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Cloud. Using Confluence Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

Currently confluence does not have function a proper export and import user created or global template.
There should be a way to export and import the template similar to how page export and import.

The current template import function only allow user to import the template that are installed from a plugin.

            Hi,

My company (LBAppStudio) has created a marketplace app called Template Import Export for Confluence that has the features that are described in this ticket.  You can find it here. https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1234484/template-import-export-for-confluence?hosting=cloud&tab=overview. I'm happy to hear about any feature enhancements you'd wish to see; you can add them here:  https://bourbaki.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2

            Hello everyone,

We are currently shifting the efforts from templates to additional customization options for Confluence Cloud. However, this suggestion is under the team's consideration, meaning that even though our work for implementation is paused, we might come back and consider implementing it in the future.

We will still keep the maintenance and continue to fix bugs that have higher priorities as per our Bug Fixing Policy.

            Thank you for your understanding.

            Wish you the best,
            Giuliano C.

            Just a curiosity question.

When Atlassian implemented site export and import why not template export and import is not possible. Link fo Import Templates given. Space wise or Admin can export templates right?

Having this feature would be helpful to troubleshoot problems with Apps when they are used on a template.

@Avni Barman There is no point in considering this issue later, people need it now for migration purposes. If you consider this issue later all your customers will have already migrated and will already be frustated to redo all their templates (I am one of them already)

Also very important for us because we will migrate to cloud end of this month (September)

Hi all! My name’s Avni and I’m the Product Manager that works on the template feature. Thanks a lot for your feedback. As we’re continuing to improve templates, understanding use cases like these always helps us figure out the most important items to prioritize in our roadmap.

For this specific request, we don’t currently have short term plans but are actively investigating what we could do on the long term. We’ll keep this ticket updated as we know more.

            Thanks again for your feedback!

            Cheers,
Avni Barman | Atlassian Product Manager

Great to know that this and the related ticket are more or less being ignored. Your cloud migration approach is poor and does not serve your clients.

The comment must be made that whilst many Confluence users might be satisfied with the cloud product, the users who run with less than the Data Centre version were probably power users and knowledgable about all things needed to run Confluence (or Jira) in these environments.

So far, the migration has been anything but smooth, and finding out our templates didn't come across as we went to use them seems a fundamental oversight

Still not happy about this migration process I'm afraid.

Hello Atlassian, we just imported Jira and Confluence to Cloud and find out we lost all our templates built troughout the years. I was about to commit suicide (joking...) but instead i'll spend many hours to recreate them. I think the migration of templates should have already been done before announcing the end of Confluence server or at least clearly told before the migration that templates would be lost.

It's also important to be able to import templates - into Cloud - from existing server instances.

It is very important to import and export templates, not only for migration purposes from one instance to  the other but also for internal transfers between instances

Yes we are having the same trouble.  We want to be able to use a template that was already created in a previous version of Confluence and implement it in the new version of Confluence.

Please implement this capability. It's useful for people who need to share templates across several instances.

I also ran into this issue when attempting to share a template with a customer whose confluence is inaccessible to us.
The possibility to directly export templates would be a very helpful feature...

I just ran into this issue today when attempting to share a template with a partner whose Confluence is inaccessible to us directly (as is ours to them). The only way to share templates would be via an export -> email -> import. It's important that templates are consistent because then at least we could have an easier time maintaining consistency in reports structure, etc.

It's really necessary and it will be convenient for customer. Also, it will keep consistent of confluence product to have both export and import features. Or have to create page template as plugin by developer and then import.

I'm facing the same issue on OnDemand Confluence I have made really some good templates and want to share it with others, not within same account, all what I have come is to download source plugin and copy & paste which doesn't work on OnDemand Confluence.

Please we need clean way for export / import between multiple instances of Confluence among different customers.
