Mac OS X 10.7.x, 10.8.x, latest Firefox (currently 16.0.1), WebDAV Launcher 1.0.6.
NOTE: This bug report is for Confluence Cloud. Using Confluence Server? See the corresponding bug report.
When clicking the button 'Edit in Office', e.g. to edit an excel file, the excel window opened is empty. Looking at https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Installing+the+Firefox+Add-On+for+the+Office+Connector it seems that Mac should be supported?

[CONFCLOUD-25594] WebDAV launcher does not work with Mac / Firefox
I'm having the same problems as @Leonard Hu and can still only get a blank document.
Is there a solution for this Firefox + WebDav + Microsoft Office compatibility issue? I'm using Mac OS X 10.11, as well.
I've followed the steps listed and am testing this on Mac OSX 10.11 with Firefox + WebDav + Microsoft Office but I keep getting an error message saying
"Microsoft Word cannot verify the identify of the server URL. The certificate for this server is not valid. Click Show Certificate to learn more."
Then when you click continue, it ends up showing "The address is not valid".
Does everyone else experience this? Is there a fix for this? I can't get it working with Microsoft Office right now after upgrading to the newest Confluence 5.9.8.
It work with Firefox + WebDav + OpenOffice(including Oo v.4). Ask if you have problem with it.
Microsoft Office not work at this time.
To further agree with @Jim Barton above I believe it should also support Mac authoring tools also .. just about every Mac has Pages and Numbers and they have to shell out a bunch of cash to get M$ office stuff so that leads me to the conclusion that there's a significant population who would be greatly served with a connector
We would like to see this feature open & accessible across all platforms and across all browsers....the fact that so many users are currently on (or are about to migrate to) Office 2016 should, in my opinion, place this issue at the top of Atlassian's list.
Moreover, the fact that so many users - including a growing number on our staff - are executing the majority of their work on the Mac platform should - again, in my opinion - strengthen the argument that Atlassian make this another top priority.
Along with the many customers who have taken the time to leave you constructive feedback (and, I'm sure, the many who have not out of frustration), we hope to see these issues resolved as soon as possible. Please dedicate the necessary staff & resources to make this happen.

This should defenately be made to work with the new Office 2016 suite of applications.
Btw. It's been none functional for like 4 years now AND christmas is coming up. Just saying...
Also another bump from my teams - strengthens the case for confluence over sharepoint ....
Another bump from me and my team. We're almost exclusively on Mac and no one's going to love Confluence so much that they run a VM just to use the file edit features. If this works Confluence is unarguably better than Sharepoint, if not there are pros and cons to each so a harder sell to get the company to convert.
Hello dear Atlassians,
Actually, we do need this feature for our teams urgently and I'd like to vote for it. If possible three times. And that's just my office. Also, more and more developers use the Mac for programming these days, they like it.
So, please hurry, and Big Thanks for providing this feature!
It would really help our audio team's handling of scripts (and our other Mac users in general) if this gets fixed.
We tried the /usr/bin/open method mentioned above by David Bernard and it isn't working for us.
I'm sure you're working hard on this.
I can't make a compelling argument to my dept. to use Confluence over Sharepoint if we can't store Office documents and Edit them within the collaboration tool.
Thanks

guys and gals, I need this fixed or i need a workaround. please fix. does this even work on a pc running windows?
On Mac OS X, you can configure to open the office files with the Default application (/usr/bin/open):
On my side it opens properly with Office 2011 for Mac.
Works very well on Mac OS 10.10.3, Confluence 5.7.1 and 5.8.4, Firefox 38.05, WebDAV Launcher 1.0.8 and LibreOffice 4.4.3.2. Even with SSL and self-signed certificates. LibreOffice complains about self-signed certificate but you can bypass it.
The only thing that doesn't work is Authorization Tokens. They don't get embedded in WebDAV link. This is strange as in Ubuntu 14.04 Firefox WebDAV extension adds them and you don't need to enter you login/password in LibreOffice. Although you do it once, just don't quit LibreOffice and you won't need to retype it.
I just tried it again under OS X and it somehow worked partly. I configured the webDAV launcher and clicked the "edit in office" button. Word started and it looked all very well. Then Word denied the access because "the user has no access to the file". I am running newest OS x and Office 2013 beta for Mac and Confluence 5.7.4.
Hi Atlassian!
Any idea on when this can/will be fixed?
This seems to me like a small thing that can quickly make some people happy...
It also would be an argument for me to use Confluence instead of Sharepoint.
At least the similar "edit-in-office" link on sharepoint works in Safari on os-x.
Why not fix this functionality for Confluence on OS X ???
I can confirm that this issue still exists with the following software configuration:
- Mac OSX 10.10.1
- Firefox 34.0.5
- Microsoft Office Excel 2011 (for Mac)
- WebDAV launcher 1.0.8.
I have also tried the following to get the issue resolved:
- Uninstall and reinstall the WebDAV launcher plugin
- Try opening in Google Chrome (not compatible)
- Configuring WebDAV manually and associating the xlsx extension with the Excel binary. When I do this, Excel does open, but it does not open the file for editing
I am going to be very blunt. This error and others with WEBDAV are UNEXECUSABLE. The very heart of this product is about sharing, whether wiki pages or documents. Every developer should at Atlassian should be on this fixing the CORE of Confluence vs trying to think up bell and whistle ideas. If this product cannot do the underlying core aspects everything else is useless.
SO... WHEN will this be fixed??? When will WEBDAV work on Apple OS/X as well as IOS?? Without this all apps on these devices cannot use Confluence as a cloud storage device.
Ah, I guess it is up to me to "convince" Atlassian to fix it. In my world, this is not acceptable and truly makes me to continue to think that Confluence is NOT READY for the enterprise.
Hi
We have tried this with open office but it still doesnt work (extremely slow and corrupts files for Office PC users). Additionally users really do not want / should not have to use Open Office just for Confluence.
Please reconsider the prioritisation of this issue.
Thanks

Hi Vu,
glad to see that this bug is finally taken up. But sorry that I can not test what you posted in your comment, because we do not have OpenOffice installed. Is there anything that could be done with Microsoft Office?
Btw, it seems the add-on does not recognize .app as an application file, but instead opens up the folder structure of the package - this is very mac-unlike behavior, as you probably know Maybe you can fix this as well, while you're at it ...
Regards
Peter
Hi Everyone
Please help do some steps in Wed Dav Launcher on your Mac OS
- Step 1 : go to Web Dav Launcher Option under firefox tools
- Step 2 : register office file type as screen shoot

Vu
Hi Everyone
Thanks for your further comments on this issue, apologies for taking so long to get back to you, on what I know is an issue that you're all passionate about having fixed. johntdyer, peter.scheidt, amel.belacel, cnegus I appreciate that it must seem as though we don't care, please believe that this is not the case, in an ideal world we'd be able to resolve all issues as soon as they're raised but unfortunately we aren't able to do this and that means that issues have to be prioritised. The severity of this issue has meant that we've not been able to address it to date.
However, as some of you may be aware we're currently looking at a related issue, CONF-33469. As we're currently looking at the webDAV launcher we are going to take the time to see if we can't determine what the problems are with Firefox on the Mac.
We hope to have an update for you all shortly.

Unfortunately I can... Truth be told I'm getting pretty accustomed this kind of stuff when it comes to Atlasssian products
I am absolutely in agreement with Peter and John above - I am in the middle of a rollout and this is becoming an absolute nightmare. The website makes it look it there is a seamless way of editing files with Macs and it is absolutely not the case.
Additionally the poor technical writing with regards to Mac / Edit in Office set up (much more time consuming and missing a lot of critical details such as inability to edit xlsx files with OpenOffice and the need to use LibreOffice for it), has made this very frustrating for all.
Please make this a priority.
I totally agree with johntdyer's comment. We use both Macs and Windows machines in our organization, and have just begun to roll out Confluence as our central working environment.
This lack of support by Atlassian for an advertised feature that is broken really frustrates people here and does not help to build acceptance for Confluence at all.
Please fix this, it is still not working on Mac OS X 10.9.1 with FF26/27 and WebDAV Launcher 1.0.7 (may update this ticket?).
BTW: @Steve, you said that you would ensure that this ticket will be "updated with all the requisite information" - when can be expect this to take place?
[^shaffenden] - So let me get this right... You are saying you company is actually ok with the fact that you have an advertised feature of your product is 100% non-functional. You also are providing your customers with absolutely no workaround for this platform defect, and said issue isn't even on your backlog? If thats the case I am truly shocked, such a thing would never fly in just about any organization I have ever worked for, or worked with for that matter. So if I got that right then maybe you guys should remove the feature from the docs all together, since it's only causing frustration and headache for your customers.

Hi Steve,
I am following the Mac / COnfluence tickets and I am alittle confused. Is 'edit in office' meant to work at all with a Mac?
Thanks
Hi John
Thanks for getting in touch. This issue is not currently on our backlog and unfortunately there are no immediate plans for us to address this. When this does get prioritised I'll ensure that this ticket is updated with all the requisite information.

+1
The "Edit in Office" function is very practical and works well in Windows + Firefox, please fix it for Mac as well! It would of course also be great if it could work in Windows/Mac + Chrome environment..
Getting a lot of OSX users here at Z. Please provide a fix for this. Cheers, Randy
Many of the staff in our organization are Mac users, so I'm wondering if others are experiencing the same problem? If you do, please vote for this and share your thoughts.
I don't like that different software doesn't always work well with Mac. What options are there to solve such problems?
