      Atlassian Update – 23 February 2023

      Hi everyone,

We are excited to announce that the Copy Space plugin has been updated under our existing marketplace listing, and is now actively supported and compatible with Confluence Data Center.

We next plan to add some feature improvements and bundle the plugin into Confluence in an upcoming release, available and supported for all customers on future versions. This is on our public roadmap to be delivered in Q2 2023 calendar year.

Copy a space and all its pages, permissions, and configuration in one easy step.

Given the app is now supported and will continue to be supported once it is bundled into Confluence, I will close this ticket.

Please keep an eye on the Copy space feature request for further updates as to progress.

      Kind regards,

      Kalvin Xu

[CONFSERVER-14198] Support the Copy Space Plugin

We have a standalone Confluence server for external (client) access, with other linked functions on it.

We would like to keep on maintaining our documentation in the cloud and only copy complete spaces across when new release is made.  We like the ViewPort plugin for formatting, but that does not work in the cloud.

After several rounds with the (otherwise very responsive) support, there seems to be no easy way of doing it so that the ViewPort plugin settings survive such a move.  And the catch-22 here is that ViewPort plugin does not work in the cloud.

So a copy plugin would be a welcome feature: copy the new, entire space over, change the ViewPort pointer and everything works.

Additional source of wonder is the fact that some plugins only work in the cloud and some in the standalone.  ViewPort in cloud would suffice for us just as well.

Scroll Versions might be the most complex Confluence add-on. It does far more than simply copy spaces. Nobody could afford to give it away given the amount of support required.

            rrobins,

Why not buy the intellectual property for K15t's Scroll Versions app and bundle it with Confluence as a free app?

            Hi everyone,

I’m a writer on the Confluence Server team, and I thought I’d jump in with some info on how we manage our docs in Confluence. The documentation for all Server / Data Center products is indeed managed using K15t's Scroll Versions app, as this allows us to manage changes for several upcoming releases at once, and then publish those changes to our latest space, and also publish to create new spaces, which act as a full archive of the documentation for that product version. The plugin does loads of other things as well. You can find out more here https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1210818/scroll-versions-for-confluence?hosting=server&tab=overview

The copy space plugin is rarely used in our site these days.

A supported alternative to this plugin is the copy page hierarchy feature, which was introduced in Confluence 6. It's a much more efficient way to copy large numbers of pages. Although it doesn’t copy over space level things, like permissions, stylesheets etc, it does a really solid job of copying pages.

Having just reread some of the documentation around creating and managing technical documentation I missed any reference to "scroll versions" and the use of "copy space" appears to be fundamental to the Atlassian documentation process - as described in the documentation...,... confused as hell that if that is the case how can it not be a supported plugin?

Atlassian is now using Scroll Versions for their docs, so they may not be using Copy Space any more.

Given that people have been asking for this for over a decade, it would be really great if Atlassian made this possible.

What's weird is that they seem to have done it themselves in that you can select from different cloned version of their documentation: https://confluence.atlassian.com/conf58/manage-users-771892644.html

If they could tell us how they did it, at least we'd be partway there, although with the steep fees we pay to use the service, it would be nice if they developed the feature themselves.

            Thank Rafael for your answer
So Atlassian is relying on an unsupported add-on to do the copy of a space?... It looks like the Copy Space add-on does "just what we need" from an Atlassian point of view, and it's fine for them. Am I right?

I added some links to add-ons which accomplish this. Most all of these are paid, and I haven't tried them but they may prove useful to someone.
