Summary

In the new navigation starred items (e.g. filters, dashboards) and non-starred ones are collapsed under their menus, needing extra clicks to be accessed when you refresh the page or open a new one. See the recording: Starred items.mp4

That's increase in effort when comparing to the old navigation where sidebar items would be expanded automatically.

Suggestion

Make it possible to have those items always expanded by default.
