Remove commit hash from the subject of email notifications on failed Pipelines builds

XMLWordPrintable

      Problem Definition

Gmail has a feature of grouping emails based on subject or email header, as per:

As a result, Bitbucket email notifications on e.g. a certain Pull Request, get grouped for users who have a Gmail account.

However, email notifications on failed builds include the commit hash in their subject: as a result, emails about failed builds on a certain branch are not grouped together, since they don't have the same subject.

It is also not possible for users to disable Pipelines email notifications for failed builds that are triggered by them (see here:https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BCLOUD-19809)

As a result, a user may end up having a lot of email notifications on Pipelines failed builds, which cannot be disabled and are also not grouped together.

      Suggested Solution

Users that use a Gmail email in their Bitbucket account, have asked that the commit hash is removed from the subject of emails on failed Pipelines builds, so that the emails can be grouped together in their GMail Inbox
