Current Limitation: Service accounts and their associated credentials (tokens) must be created manually through the admin UI. For enterprise environments with multiple integrations requiring service accounts, this creates significant operational overhead.
Impact:
- Manual provisioning takes 2-3 minutes per service account
- This means if you need to provision 150 service accounts to provision, it will take about 5-7.5 hours of administrative work to do the initial set up.
- Does not scale for organizations managing hundreds of integrations
- Delays deployment of security best practices (service accounts vs. personal tokens)
Requested Capability: Provide an API endpoint or CLI tool to programmatically manage the Service Account lifecycle:
- Create service accounts
- Generate and retrieve associated tokens/credentials
- Configure basic account properties (name, description, permissions scope)
- Suspend/deactivate/delete service accounts
Use Case: Enterprise organizations transitioning from personal access tokens (PATs) to service accounts for integrations need to provision service accounts at scale. Manual provisioning is not viable when dealing with 100+ integrations across Jira Cloud, Confluence Cloud, and related tools.
