Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.
Shipped!
Good news! This feature has shipped to all customers and we have closed this issue.
You can set up your personal notifications with these instructions:
- In any Slack channel send a /jira notify message.
- You will be prompted to select the Jira sites you would like to receive notifications for and the types of events you would like to be notified for. These options should be familiar if you have ever configured your Jira email notifications.
- The personal notifications will come to you via a DM with the Jira bot user.
- Note: At this time Slack does not offer a way to control the "loudness" of these notifications so Slack will send alerts to you for every notification (like a DM with any other user).
- If you would like to share feedback (good or bad) with us about this or any other feature you can always type /jira feedback we read all of your feedback and use it to help guide our decisions for future work.
Thank you for your patience while we built out this feature we hope you like it and find it useful.
Original Issue Description

[API-80] Personal Jira Notifications in Slack
4d2c7e51bcf6 Hello! You are likely not using the official Jira Cloud for Slack app.
So was this feature removed?
When I run /Jira help in the slack I get the following and no notify option.
/jira create :<summary> :<parameter> [value] - Create Jira issue !!!!
/jira get <issuekey> [detail] - Returns JIRA issue
/jira transition <issuekey> - Transitions JIRA issue
/jira search <JQL> - Searches for JIRA issues
/jira assign <issuekey> - Changes Assignee for JIRA issue
/jira project <projectkey> - Changes Default Jira Project
/jira help - Returns all JIRA commands
/jira ? - Returns all JIRA commands
/jira <command> - Returns Parameters for a JIRA command
Wondering if this feature will be coming to Jira Server or Data Center?
Is this the issue for that? https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/API-155
Saw this one as well https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/API-208 but doesn't seem to be a true duplicate as this is for Cloud and 208 is for Server
Thanks
I still can't figure out how to only get notified when I am @mentioned; just see how to get notified when comment is updated, created or deleted. Has anyone else figured this out?
Hi tthompson3@atlassian.com... seeing as this issue was referred to as the main one from API-208 which refers to this same functionality in Jira Server with slack... can i confirm that it's being developed for Jira Server / DC also? I realise we're all encouraged to move off server and to DC or cloud, but that not withstanding will it be available at the same time?
I currently don't see these notification options in the Jira Server slack app
I agree with d94734d8df6a, there needs to be a way to filter actions to exclude ones taken be specific individuals. (ie literally oneself). I dont like having slack notifications fill up my Jira bot messages, and burying the important stuff that I actually need to see. I already know the actions i've taken in Jira. I only need to know what others have taken.

This is awesome! Way better than email. You know what would send it over the top though? If the messages were organized into one thread per Jira ticket. Right now it's kind of easy to miss an update if it's hidden in a burst of activity from another ticket.
This is working perfectly for me - big thumbs up for this feature
d94734d8df6a I'm not sure I understand completely and in an effort to not email 349 watchers once more today by continuing the conversation here, do you mind opening a ticket at getsupport.atlassian.com or emailing support@atlassian.com ? We can help you from there. We can definitely support the functionality you're looking for.
for anyone else having issues please direct your questions to support@atlassian.com and we will be happy to help!
> That should definitely not be happening. Can you confirm if you have any other subscriptions set up in the DM with the bot? If you type /Jira manage in the DM with the bot, you should see if there are any outstanding subscriptions. Signing up for personal notifications via `/jira notify` will not send notifications about your own actions
should I remove all filters from my settings? There is no solution to see who creates and deletes tasks, but not to see your own?
>This feature is great, but I still get notifications about my own actions. It's annoying

>Not working Tried /Jira notify, logged in, and it said I was good to go. Changes to ticket I am assigned to are still pushing to the channel, just not DM from SlackBot...
I haven't thought about the flow working from a logged out state. Did you get a chance to check off which types of notifications you'd like? If not, you may not have gotten to the actual /Jira notify screen. Can you try `/Jira notify` again?

Heh sorry that would probably be helpful. Just type /jira notify anywhere in Slack and you should get instructions on how to set it up.
Agreed - an overview of steps would be great! Just tried testing this on an issue of mine, and it didn't work.
Happy to announce that as of today, we have rolled this functionality out to 100% of users! Thanks everyone for your patience!

Is there anyway to comment directly from Slack and to @mention someone using their Jira handle....so that they in turn receive notifications of their mentions
Hey everyone! We've started rolling this feature out to a small percentage of workspaces. You should receive a DM from the bot announcing the feature when it's available to your workspace. Please be patient with us as we roll this out - we want to make sure it scales well and is working as intended I don't have an exact timeline for when your workspace will see it, but if everything goes smoothly it should be soon™ If you are using the feature please feel free to give us any feedback via /jira feedback !
Stay safe!

Hi Trevor and team, I just wanted you to know that this feature is awesome and you've done a great job! It works so well that I've disabled email notifications for mentions and assignments! Thank you for moving on this back then!
Does anyone know. Right when the Beta sign up sheet was opened, I signed up. Do you know how to determined if you were added into the beta group? I'll assume I wasn't, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything else.
Hello alvaro3. Yup, for these personal notifications, we are suppressing notifications about actions that were performed by the currently logged in user. If you notice any instances of that happening, that would be a bug.
Hello
Don't know whether this is actually going to cover my needs or not... I need not to be bothered in Slack when the change in Jira has been made by me (new comment, edit issue...), I already know about that change. Is it something that already can be configure somehow? Will this Suggestion/Feature cover this topic?
Thanks!
Hi Jer, you're right. I was logged into Atlassian (In Vivaldi) but not in Chrome. Just saw your error message, and now it works after I logged in. Thanks man!
Same here! It would be really helpful if we could start using it ASAP and contribute with this feature!
@Trevor Thompson - Would it be possible to enroll in the beta for 2nd phase or something. I was waiting for a long time and somehow missed registering for the beta test. I would be able to test it thoroughly on multiple teams and scenarios and provide meaningful test results. Thank you in advance.
Hi 7a8a7f982d34,
I've seen this happen if you're not logged in with a Atlassian account, OR if the Atlassian account you're logged in with doesn't have access to Jira. I just pushed a change to display an error message in the latter case. Please let me know if you still see the issue. Thanks!
Cheers,
Jer
Hi Trevor,
We've been testing out the new feature in our team. A colleague and me signed up for the Beta. He was able to configure it and click "Set personal notifications". However, nothing happens when I click that button. The loader wheel just keeps spinning and then disappears (Tried doing it both in the desktop app and in the browser (Chrome). Could this be a bug where it's not working for more than one person in the same Slack workspace?
Hi All,
The beta registration has ended and the signup google form has closed.
I'm happy to announce to beta testers that this feature is now live for you. You can access it by typing `/Jira notify` and should get a DM from the bot announcing the feature.
Please let me know your thoughts on the experience through `/Jira feedback`. If you have any issues we will help you through that feedback mechanism.
Thanks for participating!
Trevor
 I had it accidentally locked to Atlassian only for filling out the form. It's fixed now!
Hey everyone! Happy Friday.. I bring you all good news!
We're just about ready to beta test this feature. We'd love to include each of you in this beta test; can you please submit your Slack Team ID (instructions how to find it on the form) to this google form?
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1nTL6YpYq55OA-FtYyqc61Kx-8mGomadR0hHy0AUbA4Y/edit
I'm hoping we'll be able to have you beta testing this feature in the next couple of weeks. At that point, I'll close the form and post another update that the closed beta has gone live.
Stay safe!

Our team is feeling it too
We're doing some very early testing of this feature internally. Still really tough to say when exactly, but I'd say it's safe to say we're getting close
Hey, Trevor – appreciate your previous update on this, but was hoping you could give us another one: are you guys anywhere near release for this feature?
It's OK either way; it'll help just to know! With my entire team remote for the foreseeable future, improvements to collaboration workflow are really important to us, so if the feature is still a ways out I'll probably prioritize hacking together a duct-tape version of this with webhooks that does just what my coworkers and I need. If it's about to ship, though, I'd probably wait.
I'm guessing I'm not the only one here with this issue right now – any information you can offer?
I'm not one to give public timelines (I mean, who here wouldn't be upset if we missed it?) but just know this - it's in active development, it's the number #1 thing we're working on right now, and we're also super pumped about this feature.
This is perfect for me. I just want to get a ping in Slack when I'm mentioned.
I don't play an active role in the development but I get asked questions from time to time about implementing a design.
It will be a 1 click button feature for turning each of the above options on or off. I'm fairly confident we will support mentions across all fields, not just comments.
If anyone watching this ticket would like to talk more and see mockups, I'd love to chat with you. You can schedule time with me here for a 30 minute video chat

Trevor Thompson,

amazing! will it be a JQL or "button" feature?
will the mentions that get posted in slack by the bot happen only for comment or also for mentions anywhere else (summary etc)?
thanks!
Hey Martin, the current design would be to set up direct messages from the bot in Slack. You'd be able to use the same settings as your personal Jira notification settings such as
except you'd receive these in Slack
I do not get notified in slack when I am mentioned in a Jira comment. Is this feature working? It is working for me now
