Open in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets - performance issues

    • Severity 3 - Minor

      Issue Summary

When trying to open a Jira Issue Filter (list of Jira Issues) in Microsoft Excel, using "Open in Microsoft Excel" - or in Google Sheets, using "Opening in Google Sheets" the performance is degraded after the initial load and the page does not load on the initial action either and just shows a blank screen.

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Log in to your instance
      2. Open Issue Filter View with several records returned in search. Example search (created >= -100d order by created DESC)
      3. Select Open in Microsoft Excel or Open in Google Sheets

      Expected Results

When a new tab opens to https://jira-spreadsheets.services.atlassian.com/export-to-excel, results should prompt with excel product selection. Once a product is selected, creating a file prompt should not take long to download file.

      Actual Results

Performance is severely degraded and also does not load on the initial action. It only opens a new blank tab and in a Jira there is a popup with verify and loading and does not download anything. Other reports of using this action takes several minutes to complete.

      Workaround

As a workaround, the users can use the Jira Cloud for Excel app or Jira Cloud for Sheets. It essentially accomplishes the same thing as the export function but through other means.

Another option would be to use the Export > Export Excel CSV option.

[API-561] Open in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets - performance issues

            Hi all,

We have made some significant improvements in our architecture to better handle the load of the ever increasing demand for the Issue imports. We see that the errors have gone down by 95% after the changes have been rolled out. If you face import issues, try the following:

            1. Retry the import because it may have been an intermittent rate limit imposition by Google or Jira.
            2. Try dividing your imports into multiple chunks if larger imports fail.
            3. If possible, increase the duration of your scheduled imports as frequent large imports tend to utilise the capacity of your instance much faster.

Feel free to reach out in case you face persistent issues. Thank you!

Past few days it's been really bad - sometimes taking over an hour to get an export.

When trying to export results to Excel based on a filter the instance take a long time to download.

This bug is impacting the organization's productivity. I have already raised a ticket on the atlassiat support page and says that don't have a date or time to solve the bug. Not according to their Bug Fixing policy.
