      We've found that a synchronisation point in the TermInfosReader in Lucene creates a lot of blocking in Confluence 3.0 under high load.

      There's already a Lucene issue for this problem with a tentative patch and a lot of discussion about the best way to fix it. We should see whether we can patch this issue in Lucene ourselves and see what the effect on performance is:
