Add the option/ability to index URLs, to allow the URL text to be searched.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Cloud. Using Confluence Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

Currently Confluence does not index URLs, which means that references to a URL cannot be searched within Confluence.

Add the option to allow the text of URLs to be indexed and searched on.

      Steps to reproduce:

      • Consider a page that contains the following content:
      • When searching for "lucene.apache.org", the page can be found:
      • However, when searching for "www.google.com", the page can not be found:

Question: is this issue to be located on Lucene-index or Confluence-implementation?

            Hi all

Could somebody at Atlassian give me an update on that?

            Thanks a lot! Stefan

This should be a Bug, not an Improvement. Why? Because it probably worked just fine before Atlassian eschewed all sensibility and chunked the markdown-like storage format.

            Here's an example:

Here you see I've added a page containing a pasted link and a typed-in hostname. The pasted link was automagically upgraded to a clickable anchor by the Confluence rich text editor.

I then ran the search indexer manually to be sure all content was indexed:

Then I searched for lucene.apache.org, which yielded one result:

But when I search for www.google.com, I get no results:

There is not a piece of content management software on Earth in which this type of search behavior is acceptable.
