Confluence Search not returning results when searching for part of words

    • 10
    • Minor
    • 0

      Issue Summary

      • Confluence search is not returning proper results. In some cases, searching for part of the word won't work, unless the search includes the whole/exact word.

      Steps to Reproduce

      • Create a page on Confluence, and add the string educational.
      • Search for education.

      Expected Results

      • The page should be returned, as it matches the search criteria.

      Actual Results

      • The page isn't returned.

      Workaround

At this time, the available workaround is to add an asterisk (*) to the partial word.
E.g.: searching for "education*" will return results containing "educational".

Note that wildcards at the beginning of search text are unsupported. See CONFCLOUD-37153 for more information.

[AI-200] Confluence Search not returning results when searching for part of words

Hi all, as a result of the improvements we've made to Confluence search over the past year (including semantic search) we've tested and believe this ticket is now fixed

Correcting this would help us avoid misinformation when the search doesn't return the correct results.

I'd love for this to be fixed. Thanks.

            Hi Swati,

Sure. The ticket I'm referring to is JST-595314. Even though this CONFCLOUD ticket is about partial matching, the support person on that ticket requested that I comment here.

My issue is that searching for 2 of the exact words in a title with 3 words does not include the page in the search results. (At this point, it does appear in the quick search results as "recently viewed" since I found the page by searching for references to it elsewhere). I just checked again today and still see that the page is not found when using those search terms.

            Thanks,

            Mitch

fde937243e14 Hi Can you please share some more information and which ticket corresponds to your tenant from the above? We can take a look. This public ticket is about partial matching only though

            Hi Swatti Katta,

You mentioned that exact title match had a temporary bug which was fixed. I reported something similar in an earlier comment, but am still seeing the same problem. Would you suggest re-opening a support ticket?

            Thanks,

            Mitch

            Hello d124d96ba07c

Partial word matches work by default only for title.

If you'd like partial words to match from the content body in advanced search, please use an asterisk at the end of the word. By default, we do not search for partial word matches in the content body - only full word matches

Putting the asterisk in the beginning is not supported. It is mentioned in our documentation here:

            https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/confluence-search-syntax/

            cc gtworkowski edc026a7b429

edc026a7b429 exact match for title had a temporary bug which should be fixed now. Can you please confirm with the customer from https://getsupport.atlassian.com/browse/JST-598736 whether it is still broken for them?

            Hi,
In our company we made a great effort by dumping all the technical documentation, implementation documents, knowledge base, problem solving, etc. for about a year so that it was available to the entire team on a reliable platform.

For some time we have been receiving disagreements from our colleagues and ourselves and searches are very rarely successful, the resolution response time has increased; despite using wildcards and search types recommended by the folks at Alassian.

It really is somewhat discouraging and disappointing since we put in a lot of our part and from what we have read in the reports of this bug, it is that they are not giving it the importance that it really has.
Why do we want a knowledge base, if in the face of an error, we cannot quickly find the solution for the user and sometimes worse, we cannot find it.

It would be desirable that the level of importance of the error could be raised

We sincerely hope to have a solution to a serious problem.

            Thank you
            Sylvana Rodriguez

Will we receive any fix from Atlassian Support team?

This bug really makes our knowledge base impossible to use!

            The search is broken.

Thank you and looking forward to the resolution.
