    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Cloud. Using Confluence Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

      Background Request

As mentioned by our Confluence 5.2 release notes, as we introduce a faster and cleaner search we removed label browser and label prioritize as describe here:

Labels browser: We have removed the panel that displayed related labels on the search results page, and the search results no longer favours labels. You can still search for pages by their labels using the advanced search syntax labelText:chocolate.

Some of our customer train their users to search Confluence using labels and categorize their information using it as they know that it would be search easily prior to Confluence release version 5.2.

This removal of feature cause customer unable to use their previous method and may need to re-organize their content in such a way so it would be easily searchable by their customer or they need to re-train their users on how to search Confluence content.

      Possible Implementation

Re-introduce label browser panel which will display related labels might help or maybe we should provide the option to enable label browser into the search result

[AI-161] Re-introduce Search Favouring Label by Default and Label Browser

Will there be movement on this issue? Do labels influence search at all after 5.2? Do labels only affect search results if you use the advanced search syntax labelText:chocolate?

Any (3rd party or otherwise) workarounds, though?

I totally agree to the above. Sorry Atlassian I do not see where the search in 5.2 improved - it got worse.
In our specific case I pushed my people to use labels to get around the stemmed vs. exact match problem. In the stemmed world of the search "usability", "use", "used" etc. are all the same (exact matches are not scored higher). This leads to a search result which most people do not understand. Weighting labels again would be one way...

We have over 150 users accessing our Confluence site now and since we upgraded to the recent version of Confluence the Search by label functionality we previously had and loved is gone. The new one is horrible for ordinary non-geeky users.

Please provide BOTH the user-friendly label search and the syntactical advanced Label Search. Please, please, please

"This removal of feature cause customer unable to use their previous method and may need to re-organize their content in such a way so it would be easily searchable"

This was predictable. Labels are a main search element in confluence. This is a known information. People use it to structure content and make it easy to search. Re-organizing an entire company behavior of thousands of people which use this method for years is not as easy as in your description. The system should not force the customer to re-organize its behavior, it should help optimize them. That´s a difference.

            Thanks - Reda
