As a Trello user, I'd like to turn off email threads after creating a card using the Email-to-Board feature

      User Problem

Currently, when users forward or reply to an email to their board's email (Email-to-Board feature), they can create cards using their mail clients (Gmail, MS Outlook, etc). However, the moment you forward or reply to the email you used to create a card, this new response will be added as a comment instead of creating a new card.

This happens because cards created from emails get tied up together for seven days, as stated in our documentation:

This can sometimes be an issue if there's a lot of back-and-forth on the original email thread between users, resulting in multiple responses being added to the card as comments instead of creating a new card.

      Suggested Solutions

There are a few options we could implement to solve this issue. They are:

      • Allow users to reduce the time an email is tied to a card. By default, cards are tied up to the email for seven days, but we could allow our users to reduce this time to 1 day.
      • Allow users to turn off email threads from happening. Like the other suggestion, this ensures that new emails replied to or forwarded to the board's email always create a new card instead of always adding new replies and "forwards" as comments to the card created via email.
