      Issue Summary

On Android devices where the system font is set to Roboto (the default on many Samsung devices), the Trello Android app's Markdown renderer fails to apply italic styling in card description view mode. Bold rendering is also affected when system-wide "Bold Font" toggle is enabled. The same card descriptions render correctly on Web and iPadOS.

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Use a Samsung Android device (tested on Galaxy A55 / Android 16 / One UI 8.5 and Galaxy A54 / Android 16 / One UI 6.5)
      1. Ensure system font is set to Roboto (Settings → Display → Font Size and Style)
      1. Open Trello Android app and navigate to a card with Markdown formatting in the description (e.g., italic text, *bold text*)
      1. View the card description in normal view mode (not edit mode)

      Expected Results

      • Italic text should render with a slanted/italic typeface
      • Bold text should render with heavier font weight
      • Combined bold-italic should render with both styles applied
      • Formatting should match Web and iPadOS rendering

      Actual Results

      • Italic text renders as plain/unformatted text with no slant - completely flat
      • When Samsung's "Bold Font" system toggle is enabled, bold text also fails to render (all text appears at same weight)
      • In edit mode, Markdown syntax is visible and correct (e.g., italic, *bold*) — confirming the formatting exists but the renderer fails to apply it in view mode
      • Switching device font from Roboto to Default (One UI Sans) resolves the italic rendering issue

      Workaround

Users can change their device font from Roboto to ** Default (One UI Sans) via Settings → Display → Font Size and Style → Font Style. This restores italic rendering in the Trello app.
