User Problem
At narrower viewport widths, Power-Up buttons in the Trello board header may collapse or hide behind an overflow menu. The pixel threshold for this behavior aligns with the media queries used in the board header layout and, based on tests carried out in Ecosystem Support, this is currently expected behavior for how Trello handles responsive board headers.
The items in the Power-Up dropdown menu are actual board buttons. Previously, the partner assumed they were just labels for the toggle buttons and did not recognize them as board buttons.
This is clearly a UX/UI issue, and the unequal treatment of Power-Up board buttons is confusing. Since a confusing UX/UI issue makes a stronger case than a feature request, it should be framed accordingly.
The Partner would like a product improvement so that:
- There is a clear indicator when board buttons are hidden.
- All board buttons are treated consistently (i.e., either all participate in the same overflow behavior or are surfaced in a unified way).
- A possible option could be a dropdown listing all board buttons when space becomes limited.
Actual Results
Some Power-Up or board buttons collapse and hide behind an overflow behavior that is not clearly indicated, and not all board buttons are treated the same way when space in the board header becomes constrained.
Steps to Reproduce
- Open a Trello board that has multiple Power-Up or board buttons displayed in the header.
- Gradually reduce the browser window width until the viewport becomes narrow enough for the header layout to change.
Suggested Solutions
All board buttons should either visible or there is a clear, consistent indicator (for example, a dropdown or similar UI element) showing that some board buttons are hidden, and all board buttons are treated uniformly by the responsive layout.
Current Workarounds
Currently, there workaround for this behavior is to access the Trello Power Ups through the menu.
