Issue Summary
After upgrading to Trello Enterprise, some users' profile pictures are replaced with their initials on boards and in workspace views, even though their avatars are visible in their Atlassian profile settings.
Steps to Reproduce
- User has a profile picture set in their Atlassian Account (sourced from Google login, Microsoft login, or Gravatar)
- Organization upgrades to Trello Enterprise
- Profile synchronization occurs between Atlassian Account and Trello
- View member profiles on Trello boards or in workspace settings
Expected Results
- User profile pictures from Atlassian Account should display in Trello
- Avatars should remain visible across all Trello views (boards, member lists, workspace settings)
- Profile pictures should sync automatically between Atlassian Account and Trello
Actual Results
- Profile pictures are replaced with user initials
- Avatars appear correctly in Atlassian Administration but show as initials in Trello
- Only affects users whose avatars come from OAuth providers (Google, Microsoft) or Gravatar
- Users who directly uploaded avatars to Atlassian are unaffected
Impact: Multiple Enterprise customers have reported this issue, particularly affecting newly upgraded organizations with users who authenticated via OAuth providers.
Workaround
- Visit https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/profile-and-visibility
- Under "Profile photo", change visibility setting to "Anyone"
- Wait for profile sync to complete (typically within 24 hours)
