User Problem
Users who have a card to track other cards need to manually check who is a member of the card linked to a checklist item and assign them/keep them updated on the checklist items.
The users would like to have the member of the checklist item synced with the card itself. This will shorten their manual work and grant visibility of who is assigned to which card by just glancing at the card where the cards are linked to, without having to open the cards. This will also prevent situations where someone is assigned a checklist item but can't access the linked card or is not actually assigned on the linked card, maintaining consistency between related work items.
Suggested Solutions
A new setting per Workspace, when enabled, would create the following scenario:
Checklist Item Assignment → Linked Card Membership:
- When a user is assigned to a checklist item that contains a linked card
- Automatically add that user as a member to the linked card
Linked Card Membership → Checklist Item Assignment:
- When a user is added to or removed from a card
- Automatically update the assignment of the corresponding checklist item that links to this card
If the user isn't a member of the board where the card or the checklist is, don't allow the user to add the member without a confirmation explaining that it won't be synced.
Current Workarounds
None.
There is a feature request (TRELLO-93) that would help on the first case (when a checklist item is assigned), but not on the second (when a card is assigned, look for checklist items where this card is added and assign the same user there).
