Add Configuration Options for Pull Request Notifications

    • We collect Bitbucket feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

This page shows a decent chart of the notifications that Stash sends: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/STASH/Notifications

We'd love to be able to configure what notifications get sent and to whom at the administration level.

For instance, we don't want developers to be spammed with emails every time a reviewer adds a comment to a pull request, but rather only at the end when it is approved or rejected.

[BSERV-3259] Add Configuration Options for Pull Request Notifications

The batching of notifications is great for most things, but we'd love to be able to get a separate email with a clear title for when a reviewer either sets a review as "done" or "needs more work". This is an important signal for developers waiting on a review to go take a look at all the comments and start working on it again. Are there any plans on the roadmap for some more flexibility and control on notifications?

I agree with Leif. STASH-2839 does not addressed this issue so it would be good to reopen this on!

I am also surprised that we can configure notifications in jira and bamboo, but there is no such option in Stash.

Our workflow is that the last required approver would click merge and then advance the jira ticket status, so there is no need for the merge email. Also, notifying other reviewers of approvals is also redundant, so we would want to turn this off too.

I think a system a notification scheme system similar to how Jira works would be useful.

As a developer I do not want to be spammed with all status changes and comments on pull-requests. I was very surprised to learn that I am am unable to choose which notification-types to receive or not via the "Manage account"-link in Stash. Receiving email-notifications for all comments on a pull-request adds unneccesary workload.

I cannot see how this task is a direct duplicate of https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/STASH-2839

Resolving STASH-2839 will also address this issue. Therefore I am closing this as a duplicate.

what about a periodic (daily/hourly) digest?

Dave Hausladen added a comment - what about a periodic (daily/hourly) digest?

For large pull requests, there might be dozens of comments. Each one currently notifies. The developer doesn't necessarily want to unsubscribe because they want to receive notification that the pull request is declined. From Jeff's comment it appears he wants more of a comment summary email rather than one at the moment of commenting.

The suggestion applies well to review comments rather than the casual comment.

Thanks for the suggestion Jeff. I've got a few questions:

            • How will reviewers be notified of comments that are relevant to them if you disable this globally?
            • Should this be different for reviewers and people who just leave a comment casually?
            • Is it too hard for people to unsubscribe?
            • If they are not interested in the review, why do they care about when the review gets closed?

To clarify, we have no intention to allow administrators to configure notifications. The users are the ones who receive the emails and they should decide what updates they are interested in and what updates they don't want to receive notifications for.
