I have set up the global ignore file on the majority of users at my company, but one of the users it doesn't recognize the file. If I place the .gitignore file directly into the repository then it will work.This is causing a lot of unwanted files to appear as the user checks out environments which don't have the .gitignore file.

Any thoughts as to why the global ignore file isn't working.
